Our expert dentists and caring team make tooth extractions as comfortable, painless and efficient as possible.
What is a Tooth Extraction?
A tooth extraction is a procedure during which your dentist removes a damaged or decayed tooth from your mouth. At Poinsett Dental Associates, we offer both simple and surgical tooth extractions in Greer, SC. You’ll have a variety of anesthesia options to choose from and our team will ensure you’re relaxed and comfortable throughout the procedure.
Why Do I Need to Have a Tooth Extracted?
The most common reasons for tooth extractions include:
Severe Decay
When a severely decayed or infected tooth can no longer be saved by a root canal or another procedure, an extraction could be necessary. After the tooth is extracted, you’ll then be able to replace it with a dental bridge, partial denture or dental implant.
Traumatic Injury
If a tooth sustains significant damage during an accident or injury, it may require extraction. Often, these types of dental injuries occur during sports when the person is not wearing a mouthguard.
Crowded Teeth
When there isn’t enough room in the jaw to accommodate all of the teeth, crowding occurs. In some cases of severe crowding, extractions are recommended prior to orthodontic treatment.
Eruption Problems
Unfortunately, a tooth, or teeth, can become impacted, which is when they get stuck under the bone or tissue and can’t erupt (break through the gums). Most commonly, the wisdom teeth have problems erupting. However, no matter which tooth is affected, our dentists can perform an extraction to prevent infection and damage to surrounding teeth.
